As soon as a new application is launched, an organization must take into consideration the end user training. It in fact should be a primary concern for the organization for if the end users fail to understand the new application and its software, it will fail to benefit the company. At times, newly rolled applications are quite easy to comprehend. However, such is not the case with SharePoint.
SharePoint technology comes with its own sets of complexities. One such factor is its collaborative and enterprise content management competencies. Yet another factor is the way it is leveraged by companies – which differs from one to the other significantly depending on the company’s software capability requirements. Hence, all of this makes it more imperative for organizations to offer proper training programs to their end users.
Here are some training demands that SharePoint dictate and that organizations should consider providing their end users.
- In case your organization is at present operating on SharePoint 2010 or even a prior version of this software, you need not offer training to your end users as they will not find any difficulties in learning the new SharePoint 2013. With the software in place, you most expectedly also have these in place too – organized site collections, information lists, document libraries, and much more. Hence, the real training needs will present themselves with respect to what your users actually do with SharePoint.
- There are still more advanced areas in SharePoint which allows users to perform complex functions in the software. Hence, the need of providing will present itself if your users are building team sites or performing administrative actions like reorganizing their profiles, etc.
- Profile modification and site creation are not difficult to understand as was the case in SharePoint 2010. However, SharePoint 2013 does come with an enhanced feature that allows its site owners to install lightweight applications in order to increase the reach of their sites’ functionality. This feature thus requires training which organizations should address to close any software and user gaps.
- If your organization is aiming at creating an environment where SharePoint 2013 and Office 2013 come together, then offering some Office training to end users can prove beneficial. Since some of the Microsoft’s terminology can come across as perplexing, offering end user training can help mitigate this confusion.
That being said, if your organization is newly introducing SharePoint, then the need to provide official end user training assumes great importance. Begin with offering a comprehensive SharePoint 2013 training program and take it from there. All the best!
