Recently I am working on a project which contains plenty of SharePoint lists. Customer wants to migrate (Copy/Paste) existing data (from X Database) to these SharePoint lists.
Customer was trying to open SharePoint lists as Datasheet view and getting an error as below:
Problem: Datasheet view feature on SharePoint 2010 not available for customer who install the 64-bit version of Office 2010. When clicking on the Datasheet View, the above error message was displayed.
Customer was using the 64-bit version of Office 2010 are unable to use the Datasheet view of SharePoint lists. This issue occurs regardless of what version of SharePoint the customer is using: Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, SharePoint Foundation 2010, SharePoint Server 2003, SharePoint Server 2007 or SharePoint Server 2010.
Note: The picture above is an example of the experience with SharePoint Server 2010 when customer click the Datasheet View button.
I found, the component that provides this functionality is not installed during the setup of the 64-bit version of Office 2010 because a 64-bit version of the Datasheet component does not exist.
Solution:
1. Ensure that your browser settings have the site in Trusted Sites in the Internet zone, and that ActiveX controls are enabled.
2. You can install the 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components to enable the Datasheet component. These components are available from the Microsoft download center:2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components
The 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components installs a 32-bit version of the Datasheet component that will work with the 64-bit version of Office 2010 as long as you are using a 32-bit version of an Internet browser.
