A useful Power Platform YouTube channel answers one real question per video and shows a result that viewers can reproduce safely. You do not need expensive gear. You do need accurate product steps, a clean demonstration tenant and enough editing to remove dead time and exposed information.
Do not begin with a promise to build an audience or make money. YouTube reach is variable, and monetisation has eligibility and policy requirements.
1. Choose a narrow viewer and problem
“Power Platform tutorials” is too broad for a first channel. Pick a person and a recurring job, such as:
- new canvas-app makers fixing formula errors;
- SharePoint owners automating list approvals;
- administrators moving solutions between environments;
- report builders cleaning Microsoft 365 data.
Write ten questions that person actually asks. Search Microsoft Learn, product release plans and community discussions to check the current answer before recording.
2. Set up ownership properly
You need a Google Account and a YouTube channel to upload. YouTube supports a personal channel or a channel connected to a Brand Account. The latter can support a business name and multiple managers, but you still need a documented owner and recovery route.
Enable two-step verification. Decide who can publish, moderate comments and access analytics. Keep channel ownership separate from a departing employee's personal mailbox.
3. Build a safe demonstration environment
Never record a production tenant casually. Notifications, browser history, recent files, email addresses, environment names and test records can all expose information.
Use a development or demonstration environment with fabricated data. Check every browser tab and notification surface before recording. If a video covers licensing or an admin feature, state the role, licence and environment used.
Microsoft's Power Apps Developer Plan is for development and testing, not production use. Access to particular connectors or features can still depend on licensing and tenant settings.
4. Script the proof, not every breath
A practical tutorial structure is:
- show the finished result;
- state prerequisites and boundaries;
- build one complete route;
- show a likely failure;
- test with a representative user;
- recap what the test proves.
Put commands, formulas and source links in the description. Record the product version or date when the interface is likely to change.
5. Record for comprehension
Use a clear microphone, readable zoom level and deliberate cursor movement. Crop the capture to the relevant application. Add captions and describe important visual changes aloud.
Do not use copied Microsoft screenshots or other creators' footage as decoration. Create your own demonstration and respect the rights attached to music, images and code.
6. Publish with an accurate promise
The title should match the demonstrated outcome. Avoid “in five minutes” unless the video itself proves the entire task from prerequisites to test within that time.
YouTube Studio lets you upload, set details and schedule publication. A published video can still become stale, so put a reviewed date and source links in the description.
7. Improve from viewer evidence
YouTube Analytics reports reach, engagement, audience and content performance. Look beyond raw views. For a technical channel, useful signals include audience retention around difficult steps, search terms, repeated questions and corrections in comments.
Update the description, pin a correction or replace a materially wrong tutorial. Do not leave a known-bad step live because the video still attracts traffic.
Monetisation boundary
YouTube Partner Program access is not automatic. It depends on location, account status, two-step verification, advanced features, an AdSense link, channel review and current audience thresholds. Those requirements change, so link to YouTube's live policy rather than building your channel plan around a copied number.
The channel can still be valuable as documentation, professional proof or community service without advertising income.
